Sennacherib hears that Tirhakah, king of Ethiopia, is coming to fight him.He sends a message to King Hezekiah of Judah, warning him not to trust in God’s protection, citing the destruction of other nations and their gods.
Hezekiah receives the threatening letter and goes to the Temple of the Lord.
He prays earnestly, acknowledging God as the creator and ruler of all kingdoms.
He asks God to hear Sennacherib’s blasphemy and to deliver Judah so that all nations will know the Lord is the true God.
The prophet Isaiah sends word to Hezekiah: God has heard his prayer.
Isaiah delivers a powerful prophecy against Sennacherib, declaring that:
He will not enter Jerusalem.
He will return to his land.
God will defend the city for His own sake and for David’s sake.
That night, the Angel of the Lord strikes down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers.
